During a call

Every question Live Answers hears becomes one card, and what a card offers depends on how well the library answered it.

A card, top to bottom

  • The question in quotes, with who said it. A follow-up on the same topic joins the card it belongs to and is listed under the question; if the library gives it a different answer, it moves out to a card of its own.
  • The answer, in one of these shapes: the passage in the snippet's own words, a Sources to skim list when no single passage answers it, or a sentence saying it was not answered. That last one is specific about why — how far the model read, as in 3 snippets were read and none answers this., or the reason something other than the library decided it, such as a timeout.
  • What it cited — each snippet as its title, its seal, its library when you can see it, and the revision the answer was read from.
  • The score line.
  • The actions.

While an answer is being found the card says Finding in the library. After five seconds that line is replaced by Finding and the elapsed seconds.

On a card that answered nothing — and only there — up to three flagged matches are named, as A matching snippet is flagged wrong, so it was not used: with the title, which opens in the library in a new tab.

What each band offers

  • Certain and Solid — Read this, Add to document, Copy, Dismiss.
  • Fuzzy — Read this, Mark wrong, Send for review, Dismiss.
  • Weak and No idea — Write it, Dismiss.

A card that failed, timed out or could not reach the model shows no score; one that failed or was rate-limited offers Try again and Dismiss. What the actions do:

  • Read this puts the snippet on a blank prompter, or jumps to it in the document the prompter is reading; if that document does not contain it, the card says to start a blank prompter.
  • Add to document puts the snippet into the document in the workspace tab that last had focus.
  • Copy copies the cited snippet's text.
  • Mark wrong flags the cited snippet, asking for the note a flag requires. The card then reads Flagged wrong and offers only Dismiss.
  • Send for review asks for the snippet to be read again. It is accepted on a certified or expired snippet; on one already queued the control is off and says so.
  • Write it makes a snippet titled with the question and tagged gap.

Note: an action that cannot run says why on the control rather than disappearing — Read this with no prompter open, and Add to document with no document.

When the call ends

Stop listening turns the feed into the call, read back: Asked on this call with the count, in the order the cards appeared, then Asked for, not written — the ones the library did not cover — each with Write it beside it.

Under them the footer: Transcribed on this device. No audio was recorded; this list is what was kept. Then Keep this call, which holds it until deleted, and Start again. See history for what happens to the call next.
