Retention

One thing you can read is deleted on a clock: a Live Answers call's questions and answers, once a set number of days has passed since the call ended and the call has not been kept.

The history window

The window is 30 days unless an admin changes it. To change it:

  1. Open Settings, then Live Answers.
  2. Under History, set Keep for to a whole number of days, from 1 to 3650.
  3. Press Save Live Answers settings.
The History row on Settings, Live Answers, with the number of days a call's questions and answers are kept.
The number is days, and a call you keep is never swept.

Requires: an admin. Anyone else sees the window, read-only, under Only an admin can change these.

A call's date is set when the call ends, from the window in force at that moment, so a call keeps the promise it ended under. Changing the window moves the date of calls that end afterwards, never of calls that have already ended.

What goes, and what stays

Once the date has passed, a daily job deletes each of that call's asks: the question, the passage shown on its card, and the sources the answer came from. The call stays in the history with when it started and ended and its counts of asks, answers and gaps, and its screen says so rather than reading as an empty call. History is where you read one; What is stored lists what a call and an ask hold.

No other content goes on a clock: snippets, revisions, documents and templates stay, archived or not, and an export is never stored in the first place. The same daily job clears CCEForge's own cache of documentation lookups, which no screen shows.

Keep a call

A kept call has no date, so its asks stay until someone deletes them.

  • To keep one call, press Keep this call when the call ends, or Keep on its row in the call history. Both are offered on your own calls, inside their window.
  • To keep every call, turn on Keep every call of mine under Your calls on Settings → Live Answers. Each of your calls that ends after that is kept, in every workspace you belong to.

All three depend on the workspace setting Members may keep a call for good. While an admin has it off, no new call can be kept: Keep this call and Keep are present and off with the reason, and Keep every call of mine keeps nothing in that workspace. Calls kept before it was turned off stay kept.
