Library

Search

On the Library tab, the field above the tree finds snippets as you type, in two stages.

  1. With pane 1 showing and the cursor outside any text field, press / — or click the field, which always works.
  2. Type. The tree filters to matching names on the keystroke.
  3. Keep typing: full-text results replace the filtered tree, each row carrying its library, its collection where it has one, and a line from its body.

The two stages

The first stage filters the tree on screen, on names alone.

The second is a full-text search of the snippets you can read in this workspace, on the Library tab only. It starts 90 milliseconds after you stop typing, or 160 for one or two characters. Its header counts the results and the libraries holding them and ends · Esc to return to the tree; Esc in the field clears it.

What is indexed

Title and tags share the top weight, the summary next, the body last. That rank is then multiplied by the review state (certified and unexpired highest, flagged wrong lowest), by how long ago the snippet changed, and by a penalty for sample content.

The last word you type is treated as a prefix, so pric finds pricing — unless the query carries a quote mark or that last word holds anything but letters and digits. Quoted phrases match as phrases, and -word excludes.

The search skips a deleted snippet, and any whose review state is draft or archived. It shows one page of 20 with no way to ask for more, while the header counts every match.

When nothing matches

A tree filter with no matches reads No snippet names match “<query>”. until the full-text pass starts, the pane is blank while it runs, and once it returns nothing, Nobody has written this yet. Both offer Write it now, which creates a snippet titled with what you typed — and does nothing visible for a member who cannot write (#889).
