Fields

A field is a placeholder written into a snippet and answered once per document.

Requires: writing one into a snippet is a snippet save, so it takes the grant snippets names.

  1. Write {{customer_name}} into a snippet's body, or press Insert a field on the rich toolbar for a {{changeme}} field.
  2. With the editor closed and three panes docked, open a document using the snippet and press Fields or ⌘⌥V.
  3. Type the value. The sheet lists each field once, however many snippets use it.

The rules

  • Keys are trimmed and lowercased before anything compares them, so {{Customer}} and {{customer}} are one field.
  • A field inside a fenced code block is left alone.
  • {{name}} keeps its value in a set attached to the document; where you can read that set and it is not archived, the sheet's subtitle adds Saved to <set>.
  • [[name]] is one-off: its row's note adds · one-off, this document only.
  • {{sys.date}}, {{sys.user.name}} and {{sys.workspace.name}} are filled for you and read-only, noted · built-in, filled for you. {{sys.date}} takes a format, as in {{sys.date:MMM d, yyyy}}.
  • Any other key under sys. renders undefined: {{sys.whatever}}, and its row reads Not a built-in. Nothing resolves it.

The subtitle opens on the number still unfilled, or Every field is filled.

An unfilled field

A user field with no value renders as you wrote it: {{customer_name}} unfilled stays {{customer_name}}. Exporting has the formats.
